The Los Angeles Clippers today named Glenn “Doc” Rivers as the team’s Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations and head coach. The Clippers signed Rivers after the Boston Celtics agreed to release him from his contract in exchange for a first round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft as compensation.

Rivers joins the Clippers after nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, compiling a 416-305 (.576) record and guiding the Celtics to the 2007-08 NBA Championship with a NBA-best 66-16 regular season record. Rivers led the Celtics to six Atlantic Division titles, the 2009-10 Eastern Conference Championship and a 59-47 (.556) Playoff record during his tenure.

Rivers is just one of only four active NBA coaches to win an NBA title, and since 2007-08 owns the third-highest winning percentage (.661) among current coaches.

Ex-NBA Baller Scottie Pippen Kicked a Guy’s Ass

Retired Jordan-era Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen was thought to have been arrested on Sunday for assaulting an autograph-seeking fan in a Malibu restaurant, but he wasn’t handcuffed or charged for breaking the man’s teeth and injuring nearly every part of his body including his back, which isn’t even news. (Slow day.)

I haven’t heard anything about Pippen, who won six NBA titles with the Bulls, in forever.

If you look at the “personal” section of his Wikipedia page, there’s nothing but a yard sale from 2011 and something about his wife being on Real Housewives of Miami.

Not that he needs to assault people to become interesting. Living in a sinkhole just crouching over his rings like Gollum until Kobe falls in there and pulls a Bilbo Baggins on his ass seems like a viable option.

Former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen is being accused of assaulting an autograph seeker outside of a restaurant in Malibu. The incident occurred over the weekend after the 47 year old retiree had dinner with his family at Nobu.

Apparently the man became angry with Pippen after he failed to get his autograph. The argument led to an altercation which Pippen got the better of. JUST GIVE THE MAN A FREAKIN AUTOGRAPH SCOTTIE LOL, YOU’RE AN ICON!

HERE’S THE REPORT FROM THE LA TIMES:

Law enforcement sources had told The Times that they expected Pippen to be arrested and released, but Whitmore said detectives concluded after the interview that the case was “a more complex situation” and would require more investigation to determine whether Pippen or anybody else should be arrested.

Athletics Notebook: Renovations ongoing at Memorial Stadium

As construction continues at Faurot Field, Frank Haith signs another transfer and the volleyball team brings in a top-20 recruiting class. 

§     Construction continues on Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium after a mid-April groundbreaking, as two separate multi-million dollar renovations take shape.

Revamping the 87-year-old stadium’s west tower should be completed by the 2013 football season and will cost $9.74 million. It will see the reappearance of Missouri’s famed rock “M,” absent at the program’s spring scrimmage, moved down the north hill and closer to the end zone to make room for an expanded north concourse. The current press area will also be turned in to new luxury suites.

The east tower project, costing $45.55 million, is slated to be completed by the 2014 season and will include some 4,100 upper deck seats plus another 800 club seats.
